Computer software for accent reduction
With just a click of a button you will be able to hear the example, record your own voice and compare the two.
Wave form graphs will help you visually identify the differences between your recording and the speaker models. You will see an animated simulation of the production of the sound, showing you the movement of the tongue, lips, and vocal cords.
Basic lessons focus on listening and speaking at the sound (or phoneme) level. In the basic lessons you will learn the specific sounds that speakers of different languages need to learn to reduce their accents. The needs of a Russian speaker are different from those of a Spanish, Hindi, or Chinese speaker. You will view video and animated graphics that teach these sounds. You will then be able to play games and complete exercises which focus on these sounds in isolation (level 1), use the sound in words (level 2), and using the sound in sentences (level 3). These basic lessons will increase your intelligibility allowing you to be understood the first time you speak! The advanced lessons focus on the three skills foreign speakers need in order to sound fluent. They are word stress, linking, and intonation. We present video instruction, audio examples, listening games & exercises, and recording exercises in each of these three areas.A brief list of our features includes:

American Accent Training
American Accent Training by Ann
Cook; Paperback: 210 pages and CDs. Publisher: Barron's Educational
Series

I highly recommend this book and CDs. I have reviewed it and am impressed by its content. I know the difficulty my immigrant students have with accent training. Another reviewer says, "Ann Cook has put together the clearest, most insightful program for acquiring an American accent that I have found. You get 5 very useful CD's all cued to the manual, a small mirror for checking on the position of your lips, markers for written exercises, and an excellent manual. Quite a value! She understands the American accent perfectly and masterfully explains the ingredients that make up that accent. I am a native speaker/speech therapist and even I learned a good deal from this package."
The second edition of the highly acclaimed American Accent Training, now on 5 audio CDs, is for foreign-born students and business people working, traveling or studying in the United States and Canada. Through extensive intonation and pronunciation exercises, students learn how to speak with a standard American Accent.
It it based on sound linguistic and phonetic principles. At the same time, listening comprehension improves dramatically. Supplementary materials included detailed nationality guides for eight languages (Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Spanish, French, German, Russian and Korean), access to a comprehensive website, and referral to a qualified telephone analyst for an individual diagnostic speech analysis.
